The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has announced that SASSA Gold Cards will become obsolete by 20 March, and beneficiaries are urged to switch to alternative payment methods.
As of now, over 174,000 people still possess a Gold Card, while over 102,000 have switched to Postbank Black Cards and more than 44,000 have changed to banks.
Why You Need to Switch
SASSA Gold Cards will no longer be valid after 20 March, and beneficiaries need to switch to a new payment method to continue receiving their grants.
Postbank has extended the deadline to switch to their Black Cards until the end of June.
Alternatively, beneficiaries can withdraw their grant money at a Post Office using their ID and cellphone.
Options for Switching
Beneficiaries have several options to switch their payment method:
- Switch to a Postbank Black Card at one of the designated service points
- Withdraw grant money at a Post Office using ID and cellphone
- Change payment method to a bank account at a local SASSA office or bank
