NSFAS Registration Closing Date

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) offers financial assistance to students through the NSFAS bursary and NSFAS loan.

This funding covers tuition and registration fees, as well as allowances for food, accommodation, and learning materials.

NSFAS Registration Closing Date

NSFAS applications for the 2025 academic year opened on September 20, 2024, and closed on December 15, 2024.

Students and prospective students had three months to submit their applications.

Required Documents

To apply for NSFAS, you’ll need:

  • Your own cell phone number and email address
  • A copy of your ID or birth certificate
  • Additional documents, depending on your circumstances

How to Apply for NSFAS

Step 1: Create a myNSFAS Account

  1. Visit the NSFAS website and click on the “myNSFAS” tab.
  2. Create a myNSFAS account, remembering that this doesn’t mean you’ve applied.

Step 2: Complete the Online Application

  1. Click on the “APPLY” tab and complete the sections on the screen.
  2. Upload required supporting documents, if requested by NSFAS.
  3. Click “Submit” when finished.

Step 3: Track Your Application Status

  1. Log in to your myNSFAS account.
  2. Click on the “Track Funding Progress” option.
  3. View your NSFAS application status on the screen.

Eligibility Checks and Funding Decisions

After submitting your application, NSFAS will:

  1. Conduct eligibility checks to confirm your qualification for funding.
  2. Automatically assess you for an NSFAS student loan if you fail the household income check.
  3. Make immediate funding decisions for Sassa grant beneficiaries.

Funding Outcomes

You will either:

  • Be approved for funding
  • Be required to upload supporting documents
  • Be declined
