NSFAS Registration Deadline

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) provides financial assistance to students in South Africa through the NSFAS bursary and NSFAS loan.

This funding covers tuition and registration fees, as well as allowances for food, accommodation, and learning materials.

Application Period

NSFAS applications for the 2025 academic year opened on September 20, 2024, and are set to close on December 15, 2024.

Students and prospective students had three months to apply.

Documents Needed for Application

To apply for NSFAS funding, students will need:

  • A cell phone number and email address
  • A copy of their ID or birth certificate
  • Other documents, depending on their circumstances

How to Apply for NSFAS

Online Application

To apply for NSFAS funding, students must:

  1. Visit the NSFAS website and create a myNSFAS account
  2. Click on the “APPLY” tab and complete the online application
  3. Upload required supporting documents, if requested
  4. Submit the application

Checking Application Status

After applying, students should regularly check their NSFAS status by:

  1. Logging in to their myNSFAS account
  2. Clicking on the “Track Funding Progress” option

NSFAS Funding Decisions

Eligibility Checks

NSFAS will conduct eligibility checks to confirm whether the applicant qualifies for funding. Students who fail the household income check may be assessed for an NSFAS student loan.

Immediate Funding Decisions

Funding decisions will be made immediately for applicants who are beneficiaries of South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) grants.

Funding Outcomes

Students will be notified of their funding outcome, which may include:

  • Approval for funding
  • Request for supporting documents
  • Decline of funding

Submitting an Appeal

Students who are rejected from NSFAS funding can submit an appeal.
