As the new year approaches, Unisa students who are recipients of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) bursaries are eager to know how their allowances will be structured.
NSFAS Allowance Payment Structure
NSFAS allowances are divided into 10 payments yearly, coinciding with the academic year, it means that Unisa students will not receive any allowances in January 2025.
Academic Year and Allowance Payment Period
The academic year for most institutions, including Unisa, commences in February and ends in November. As a result, NSFAS pays allowances from February to November only.
How Much January 2025 NSFAS Allowances For Unisa Students Will Be
Unisa students funded by NSFAS are eligible for two main allowances:
Learning Materials Allowance
- R700 per module for the first four modules
- A one-time payment of R5,460 for five or more modules
Living Allowance
- Students registered for ten or more modules qualify for a living allowance
- Eligible for an incidental allowance as specified by Unisa
In addition to these allowances, NSFAS covers both tuition and registration fees.
- December and January are excluded from the NSFAS allowance payment period.
- NSFAS only pays allowances for 10 months every year.
