NSFAS Sets Deadline for Students to Submit Supporting Documents

By | January 10, 2025

Cape Town, 10 January 2025 – The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has issued an urgent reminder to all 2025 funding applicants: Submit your supporting documents within 30 days of receiving the request, or risk losing your chance for funding.

NSFAS, which provides financial assistance to deserving students at universities and TVET colleges across South Africa, stressed that incomplete applications would not be processed.

The scheme covers tuition, registration fees, and allowances for food, accommodation, and study materials.

NSFAS Sets Deadline for Students

NSFAS has set a strict 30-day timeframe for students to upload requested supporting documents. This period begins the moment the scheme sends out the request. Failure to meet this deadline will result in the application being invalidated.

“We urge all applicants who have not yet submitted their outstanding documents to do so urgently,” said NSFAS.

Steps to Upload Your Documents

Applicants can follow these five simple steps to upload their supporting documents:

  1. Log in to your myNSFAS account.
  2. Navigate to the ‘Document Upload’ section.
  3. Ensure your supporting documents are prepared and ready.
  4. Upload the required documents.
  5. Submit your documents.

Applicants can return to the myNSFAS portal later to check their application status.

Required Documents

The specific documents required depend on the applicant’s circumstances. Below are examples of commonly requested documents:

  • NSFAS Declaration Form: Completed by the school principal or social worker for non-SASSA applicants.
  • Orphan/Vulnerable Child Declaration Form: Completed by a social worker (for applicants under 18).
  • NSFAS Consent Form: Signed by the applicant and/or parent(s), guardian, or spouse (not required for SASSA recipients).
  • Court-Issued Documents: Required to prove guardianship if applicable.
  • NSFAS Declaration Form (Non-Court Appointed Guardianship): Submitted when guardianship isn’t court-appointed.
  • Disability Annexure Form: Completed by a certified medical doctor or qualified professional to confirm disability status and specify necessary support.

NSFAS has emphasized that SASSA grant beneficiaries are not required to submit supporting documents.
