{"id":1763,"date":"2026-12-27T12:14:31","date_gmt":"2026-12-27T12:14:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.zansfas.co.za\/?p=1763"},"modified":"2026-12-27T12:14:31","modified_gmt":"2026-12-27T12:14:31","slug":"nsfas-allowances-for-unisa-students-what-to-expect-in-january-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.zapage.co.za\/nsfas\/nsfas-allowances-for-unisa-students-what-to-expect-in-january-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"NSFAS Allowances for Unisa Students: What to Expect in January 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>As the new year approaches, Unisa students who are recipients of the National Student <a href=\"https:\/\/mysassacheck.co.za\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Financial Aid Scheme<\/a> (NSFAS) bursaries are eager to know how their allowances will be structured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>NSFAS Allowance Payment Structure<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>NSFAS allowances are divided into 10 payments yearly, coinciding with the academic year, it means that Unisa students will not receive any allowances in January 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Academic Year and Allowance Payment Period<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The academic year for most institutions, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zapage.co.za\/nsfas\/unisa-nsfas-application\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1086\">Unisa<\/a>, commences in February and ends in November. As a result, NSFAS pays allowances from February to November only.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Much January 2026 NSFAS Allowances For Unisa Students Will Be<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Unisa students funded by NSFAS are eligible for two main allowances:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Learning Materials Allowance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>R700 per module for the first four modules<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A one-time payment of R5,460 for five or more modules<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Living Allowance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students registered for ten or more modules qualify for a living allowance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Eligible for an incidental allowance as specified by Unisa<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to these allowances, NSFAS covers both tuition and registration fees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>December and January are excluded from the
