The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has extended the deadline for grant beneficiaries to swap their SASSA gold cards for new Postbank black cards to April 30, 2025.
This extension allows SASSA and the Department of Social Development to complete the migration of outstanding beneficiaries to the new and secure Postbank black card ¹.
What’s Happening with SASSA Gold Cards?
The SASSA gold card is being phased out and replaced with the Postbank black card.
Initially, the deadline was set for February 28, 2025, but it was later extended to March 20, 2025, and now to April 30, 2025.

How to Get Your New Postbank Black Card
To receive your new Postbank black card, you’ll need to:
- Present a Valid ID: Show a valid South African ID or temporary ID
- Visit a Retailer: Collect your new card at various retailers, including Checkers, Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Usave, and Boxer
- Locate Collection Points: Use your cellphone to find the nearest collection point in your province by dialing 120355#
Transitioning to the New Postbank Black Card
The transition to the new Postbank black card system will happen gradually.
Beneficiaries are advised to transition to the new card as soon as it becomes available in their region to avoid disruptions to their service.
