SASSA SRD age out of range meaning

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) provides financial assistance to millions of South Africans through various grant programs, including the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant.

If you have applied for the SRD grant and received a decline notice due to “age outside range,” here’s what it means and what you can do about it.

What Does “Age Outside Range” Mean?

Age Requirement for SRD Grant

If your SRD status was “age outside range,” it means that you don’t qualify for the grant because you are not meeting the age requirement, which is between 18 and 59 years old.

You were either younger than 18 or older than 59.

Older Persons’ Grant

If you are over the age of 59, you can apply for SASSA’s Older Persons’ Grant, which provides R1890 per month.

Click here for more information on SASSA’s Older Persons’ Grant.

Submitting an Appeal

If you were declined and believe that the reason given is incorrect, you can submit a R350 grant appeal.

The appeal process allows SASSA to reconsider your application.

How to Appeal for SRD Grant

Steps to Appeal

  1. Go to the SASSA Appeals Website
  2. Enter your ID number
  3. Enter your telephone number
  4. Lodge your appeal

Monitoring the Status of Your Appeal

Once you’ve submitted your SRD appeal, you will need to track it.

The outcome of your appeal will be relayed to you through SMS.
